The design
First Aid – a simulation to make students experience an emergency situation in which a person needs to be rescued.
- Learner has to make decisions in order to help a victim who is suffering an emergency. This simulation allows the learner to witness the situation, deciding out loud what they want to do while the trainer makes decisions on the trainer’s screen.
- Learners can also make the decisions themselves using the table. The aim is to try to help the person quickly but without making serious mistakes due to stress factors.
- Duration of exercise: the average time a student takes to complete/solve a situation is 2-3 minutes
- Each situation has different variants when the exercise ends,
- Situation - Choking
- Variants - partial obstruction, total obstruction, loss of consciousness
- Expulsion of the object - automatic control, manual control
- Emergency services - simulation of a 911 call
- Explanations on how to proceed from 911 operator
- Evaluation: The student will pass the exercise if he/she manages to solve the situation (object is ejected OR no mistakes are made until arrival of paramedics).
- Examples of errors:
- Giving water to the victim
- Abandoning the victim
- Other actions that are harmful to the situation
8, Statistics: duration of exercise and errors committed
- Upcoming updates: burns, wounds, ictus, infant choking, electric shock rescue
