Construction Safety– VR ****training in virtual scenarios where students can practice their observations skills and their knowledge of hazardous situations and safety rules in construction.
Part I - PPE
The student begins the exercise in a changing room, where a range of PPE is available. The goal is to examine every piece of PPE and equip those that they consider suitable. On the changing room’s exit door there is a sign displaying both the PPE required to enter the site and other PPE required for the scenario. PPE available: • Ear protection • High visibility safety vest • Safety boots • Hard hat • Safety glasses • FFP2 face mask for respiratory protection
Part 2 - Moving around the construction site
Once correctly equipped, the student must exit the changing room and move around the construction site looking for hazardous situations. The student must identify and correct those hazards by pointing them out with a laser pointer. In the construction site, the following can be found: Hazardous situations. People breaking safety rules. In some cases, if the student does not identify the hazard, somebody may suffer an accident. Non-hazardous situations. People working correctly, following all safety rules.
Exercise Completion
The exercise can end in several ways: The trainer finishes the exercise. The trainer has an option available that allows him to finish an exercise at any time. The student is shown a screen with the undetected hazards up until that moment. The student finishes walking around the construction site. When the student has walked around the whole construction site, the exercise will end and a screen with the undetected hazards will be displayed. There is an accident. Both the student and the workers in the construction site can suffer accidents if they do not follow the safety rules. If there is an accident, the student will appear in an infirmary where somebody will explain the consequences of that accident.
Exercise Duration
The average time to complete the exercise is around 10 minutes. If the student has made mistakes, the trainer has the choice to repeat the exercise as many times as needed. If the exercise is taking too long, the trainer can finish the exercise and go straight to the results to check the mistakes made up until that moment.
